What is this event?

VANGUARD: OPEN SIGNAL is a classic hip-hop / rap battle focused on raw expression, voice, and presence.

This is not a brand challenge. Not a marketing brief. Not a talent show.

This is a cultural arena where artists test their ability to create a signal that cuts through noise.

No trends. No algorithms. No artificial amplification.

Only your voice, your track, and the reaction it creates.

Who can participate

This battle is open to artists who work with sound, rhythm, and words.

You can participate if you are:

  • a rapper or hip-hop artist;
  • a lyricist or songwriter;
  • a producer working with original material;
  • an independent artist exploring your own sound;
  • someone ready to release a track as a statement — not as content.

You don’t need:

  • a label;
  • a big following;
  • industry connections.

You do need:

  • an original track;
  • a clear artistic intent;
  • the willingness to stand behind your work.

This battle is about presence, not perfection.

Language requirement: All submissions and lyrics must be in English only.

Battle format

VANGUARD: OPEN SIGNAL follows a classic battle structure.

Stage 1 — Open Signal (Qualifying Round)

All registered participants submit one original track.

Requirements:

  • original material only;
  • no AI-generated music or vocals;
  • any language is allowed;
  • any style within hip-hop / rap culture.

This stage is about:

  • voice;
  • intent;
  • originality;
  • emotional and cultural resonance.

All submissions are published as part of the event archive.

Based on the results, participants advance to the knockout stage.

Stage 2 — Knockout Battles (Head-to-Head)

Qualified participants are paired into 1 vs 1 battles.

  • minimum bracket: 8 pairs (16 artists);
  • possible brackets: 16, 32, 64 participants (or more);
  • elimination format — one battle, one result.

Artists advance round by round until the final matchup.

This is a classic Olympic-style elimination: direct comparison, clear outcomes, no second chances.

What we evaluate

This is not a technical competition.

We are not judging:

  • studio budget;
  • expensive production;
  • commercial polish.

We are looking at:

  • presence;
  • authenticity;
  • clarity of voice;
  • cultural weight;
  • the ability to hold attention in direct comparison.

Prize pool

The prize pool is dynamic, but capped for this event.

Minimum guaranteed prize pool:

  • $250 — starting from 16 participants (8 pairs)

Prize pool tiers:

  • 32 participants — $500
  • 64 participants or more — $750 (maximum for this event)

The final prize pool amount and its distribution are announced before the knockout stage begins.

Content usage & license

To participate in VANGUARD: OPEN SIGNAL, you must own the rights to the track you submit.

By submitting your track, you grant Vanguard a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to:

  • publish your submission as part of the event;
  • promote the battle, the platform, and participating artists;
  • distribute your track across Vanguard channels for promotional purposes.

Important clarifications:

  • you retain full authorship of your work;
  • all monetization rights remain fully yours;
  • Vanguard does not claim ownership of your music;
  • this license exists solely to allow promotion of the event and its participants.

Without this license, participation in the event is not possible.

Important rules

  • all submissions must be original;
  • AI-generated tracks or vocals are not allowed;

  • authorship and monetization always remain yours.
