Welcome to Vanguard Music Championship — Season 1: Open Signal
Welcome to Vanguard Music Championship — Season 1: Open Signal.
This is the first season of Vanguard Music Championship — a public professional music competition built for artists who can turn voice, writing, delivery, and presence into a real signal.
The idea is simple:
Can your voice cut through the noise?
Round 1 is coming
Round 1 is the qualifying round.
The official submission opening date will be announced this week.
For Round 1, participants must submit one original audio track between 60 and 90 seconds through the official Vanguard submission flow.
This does not need to be a full song. It can be a verse, battle-style track, concept piece, structured excerpt, or short original performance.
Your submission should feel created for this Event — not pulled from an old catalogue.
Round 1 brief
Your submission must be created for this Event and connected to the Round 1 brief.
Do not submit a random old song, catalogue track, freestyle, or unreleased record that was not written for Vanguard Music Championship — Season 1: Open Signal.
You can take either direction:
Open Signal
Create a track that directly responds to the Open Signal theme: your signal, your message, your position, your voice cutting through the noise.
Vanguard M.C.
Represent yourself as an M.C. Show your voice, identity, presence, style, and intent.
Even if you choose the Vanguard M.C. direction, the track must still clearly connect back to Open Signal or Vanguard Music Championship — Season 1. At minimum, the Event, the round theme, or the idea of the signal must be referenced in the lyrics in a way that shows the track was created specifically for this competition.
Judges may treat weak or missing connection to the brief as a scoring issue, and submissions that appear unrelated to the Event may be rejected or ruled ineligible.
What Judges are looking for
Round 1 is reviewed as a qualifying round.
Judges may consider:
- connection to the brief;
- originality;
- lyrics and writing;
- rhyme work and technique;
- punchlines, wordplay, and message;
- flow and delivery;
- vocal presence;
- structure and control;
- ability to hold attention;
- overall impact.
Studio polish is not the main point.
A clean idea with strong delivery can beat an expensive recording with no presence.

The strongest eligible submissions may advance to the 1v1 knockout battle stage.

The prize amount depends on the number of eligible Round 1 submissions and the winner passing all required eligibility, rights, authorship, AI-use, payment, tax, sanctions, and compliance checks.
The maximum cash prize for this Event is CAD $500.
